Theralase™ Case Histories
The following case histories have been collected from various practitioners utilizing the Theralase TLC-1000 Therapeutic Laser System.
Case 1 (Dr. Michael Cruise - July 2005)
Patient Profile: 51 year old Caucasian female
Diagnosis: Chronic Shoulder Strain (post surgery)
Symptoms: Constant pain, limited in all ranges of motion (ROM)
History: Had surgery to remove calcium deposits from the shoulder, attended physiotherapy with no resolution of pain or increased ROM.
Treatment: Treated around the shoulder capsule and the insertion points for the rotator cuff ligaments at a medium setting of 60mW / 2min / 4pts. Patient felt immediate relief and continued with same setting for next two treatments with the same results. Due to her high BMI, the power was increased to 75mW for the remainder of the treatments.
Outcome: By the 9th treatment the patient was pain free, with improved ROM in all directions. At the 3 month follow up, the patient was still pain free and very pleased with the treatment results.
Case 2 (Dr. Michael Cruise - July 2005)
Patient Profile: 33 year old Caucasian male
Diagnosis: Lateral Epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow)
Symptoms: Severe right elbow pain from repetitive strain at work.
History: He had received treatments for 3 months from the physician, the usual NSAID’s and cortisone, with no results. He was referred to a physician who suggested that he “cut the tendon attachment of the extensor muscles of his forearm, and reattach them to relieve the stress of the elbow”. Surgery was then scheduled for 5 weeks later.
Treatment: When he first came in he received a session on the elbow at a setting of 60mW / 2min / 4pts. He then had 3 more treatments.
Outcome: The acute pain at the epicondyle was gone and he was back to normal awaiting his surgery appointment that was no longer required. However, he wished to discuss his success with the surgeon directly.
Case 3 (Laser Innovations September 2005)
Patient Profile: 74 year old female
Diagnosis: Back and Knee Pain
History: Was seeing a rheumatologist for 15 years. During the past 12 months her condition in her back and knees has deteriorated to such severity she could no longer help her husband with regular household chores.
Treatment: 11 treatments administered.
Outcome: Patient feels 95% better.
Case 4 (Laser Innovations September 2005)
Patient Profile: 58 year old female
Diagnosis: Carpal tunnel and an arthritic knee
History: Doctors had told her that she has no cartilage in the knee but was too young for a knee implant. Her wrist was in an immobilizer and she complained about a considerable amount of pain.
Treatment: After 3 eight minute treatments on the knee along with 3 four minute treatments on her wrist, she was out of pain.
Outcome: Her knee is now 50% more functional and she has continued with a course of 10 treatments to reinforce function in her knee. Her wrist is totally functional that she took a computer class with no impairment of motion or reoccurrence of pain.
Case 5 (Laser Innovations September 2005)
Patient Profile: 45 year old male
Diagnosis: Knee wound
History: He had been in a car accident 2 hours previously. His knee was throbbing, stiff and cut.
Treatment: Laser treatment of 8 minutes was administered.
Outcome: Patient stated 30 minutes later “it feels normal” all symptoms have completely subsided.
Case 6 (Laser Innovations September 2005)
Patient Profile: 58 year old female
Diagnosis: Arthritic ankle
History: She had significant swelling and an arthritic ankle for 15 years and additionally developed a limp. Doctor said “… there is nothing we can do”.
Treatment: 5 eight minute treatments, followed by 12 more treatments
Outcome: She was pain free and the swelling was significantly reduced. She continued with treatments for 95% rehabilitation of the entire leg and limp was negligible.
Case 7 (Laser Innovations September 2005)
Patient Profile: 69 year old female
Diagnosis: Tendonitis
History: She fell at poolside and broke her fall with her left arm. Her primary physician diagnosed her with tendonitis. Her wrist was very bruised and sore.
Treatment: Course of 10 treatments were undertaken.
Outcome: She experienced improvement after the 5th treatment and had a 95% recovery after 10 treatments.
Case 8 (Laser Innovations September 2005)
Patient Profile: 74 year old female
Diagnosis: Arthritis in both hands
History: Fine art painter who could no longer hold a brush because it was just too painful for her.
Treatment: 6 two minute treatments per hand
Outcome: She experienced great improvement after the 2nd treatment and she was 95% functional after the 3rd treatment.

Diagnosis: Tendonitis (Achilles tendon)
History: He had this for an entire year and has spent over $1,000 on conventional treatments and received no relief.

Profile: 60 year old Male (Diabetic, Caucasian)
Diagnosis: Decubitis Ulcer on big toe (raised & open)
Symptoms: Sore had been open for 5 months and would not heal
Treatment: 10 treatments over a 5 week period 36 mW, 3 minutes per point, 4 points, 2x per week
Outcome: Ulcer reduced in size, flattened and completely healed over
Case History 11 (Dr. Pamela Hopper D.Pod.Med)
Profile: 68 year old female Caucasian
Diagnosis: Fracture 5th Metatarsal (R) Foot
Symptoms: Unable to weight bear, severe pain
History: Osteoporosis. No medication. Otherwise healthy.
Treatment: Non weight bearing cast. 4 points, 36 mW, 2 minutes per point for 4 treatments. Increased to 4 points, 40 mW, 3 minutes per point for 4 treatments.
Outcome: After 2 treatments, swelling was reduced by 75% and pain reduced. After 8 treatments, no further pain. Fracture healing approximately 2 weeks ahead.
